Just discovered Swedish photographer and graphic designer Hilda Grahnat's wonderful work via Darling Clementine's Tumblr.  So beautiful. A few of my favourite photographs on her site:

100% Norway at 100% Design

Yesterday, I took some time out to visit 100% Design at Earl's Court. One of the coolest things I saw there was Siren Elise Wilhelmsen's 365 - a Knitting Clock. Exhibiting with 100% Norway, this immediately caught my attention. By the end of the year, the clock has produced a 2 metre long scarf. The inspiration for Wilhelmsen's clock - measuring the time in a three-dimensional form; in volume. The clock counts the 24 hourse per day, for each half and whole hour a needle is knitting a stitch, each day makes one knitted line. How innovative!

NEW Mengsel cushion cover design: "Ceramic Study"

The design was hand drawn by me while visiting the very interesting and wonderful ceramics department of the Victoria & Albert museum in London. The "Ceramic Study" cushion shows the original coffee service used on Finnair flights during the 1970s. The set has a beautiful pattern and I just fell in love with it. Silkscreen printed by hand with red ink on white cotton drill. Sewn together in the Mengsel studio. Available to purchase HERE in my ETSY shop, with international shipping. More colours to be added soon. Hope you like it...

Tag! You're It!: Rachie's Place - a vintage shop

My love of vintage homewares can be traced back to a high school girl wandering the streets of Cape Town, marveling at all the beautiful mid-century designs and wondering why the hell somebody would dump these beautiful pieces in a junk shop. Turns out, I'm not the only one.

As part of Tania from Indobay's "tag: your're it!" concept of blogging about other Papernstitch sellers, my shop of choice is the vintage shop of Rachie's Place. I was actually tagged in this blog post by lovely fellow South African (currently living in sunny California) Silvana Ferreira from Leefee Design. Sharing exhibition space with Mengsel on Paperntitch this month, Rachel Hare Mason from Kansas City's vintage shop is filled with amazing treasures. What is so great about the Rachie's Place etsy shop, is that each item is lovingly sourced with a brief history of each piece. I think that is why I love vintage pieces so much: the story behind it and its journey. Buying vintage and combining them with new pieces can really bring some personality to your home.

I also discovered the Rachie's Place blog. Here are a few of my favourite items from the shop:

Vintage 1971 Green Thermos by King-Seely Thermos Company. Love the graphics, colours and Scandinavian aesthetic.

Another bright red vintage thermos from the same company as above. All the pieces are in really great condition.

Vintage Chadwick Diet Scale. I'm actually more interested in the graphic illustration on the packaging!

Braniff International Airways were in operation from 1928 through 1982 and this little plastic coffee pot were used onboard to serve passengers.

Milk Bottle from Valley Farm in St. Louis. "Tones up your system". So funny. Would look great with a single long stemmed flower in it.

Etsy find: Folk Art Berggren Percolator - Vintage by Crafts Cafe

Okay, so everybody knows that I love coffee. (Hence the Moka Express prints). Another thing that I love is folksy vintage Scandinavian style decor. How cute is this vintage enamelware percolater coffee pot featuring bright Scandinavian folk art by Etsy seller Craftscafe?

pink, lime and black bird markers

One of my favourite new sites to shop is the Swedish online store Designista. They feature a great variety of humouristic and clever design products. I spotted these bird book markers by designer Hung-Ming Chen. At only 30 Swedish Kroner (about £3) - I want one in every colour! Available in gold, silver, pink, lime and black. I'm sure I will discover a few more must haves!

anne kyyro quinn wall panel

Finally put up my Anne Kyyro Quinn wall panel in my apartment this weekend! It was a gift from Anne, when I left my position as project manager earlier this year. This particular design is called ROSETTE and it is very voluminous and three-dimensional. Sheets of felt are folded and manipulated and stitched into place to create the origami effect. This panel measures 1 meter x 1 meter, but Anne is known mostly for her large scale bespoke textile wall installations all around the world. Have a look at the AKQ website to see her other projects.

isak - beautiful happy things

One of the highlights for me at Top Drawer, was the work of Swedish designer Sandra Isaksson. Strong Scandinavian influences, especially in the way of storytelling, coupled with beautiful colours and patterns makes this brand one to watch. Isak's products are made by hand and the craftsmanship is excellent. Sustainable sources and recycled paper products are used wherever possible.
